Course Description: This course is a graduate level consideration of the information technology issues facing managers and technology managers.  It examines the role of technology in organizations, the problems inherent in managing technology, and the issues involved in planning for technology.

 

Requirements the Course Satisfies: This course satisfies a requirement for the Masters in Information Systems.

 

Course Behavioral Objectives: Students will discuss the role of technology in organizations.  Students will analyze technologies and their adoption processes.  Students will analyze the technological planning process.

This course will help students to obtain essential skills to know “what does it mean to make a living and to live as a productive human being”

 

Encourages communicating clearly and effectively in multiple modes of discourse, including written, oral, and other means of presenting information. Such expressions will be used to identify problems and articulate appropriate solutions.

 

Encourages students to possess expertise in a specific area and appreciation of other areas and to dedicate themselves to their field of endeavor.

 

 

Required Materials: Management of Information Technology, Third Edition, by Carroll Frenzel, access to the Internet, a computer with Microsoft Office or with Powerpoint Player.

1 long paper (10 pages minimum)—students will choose from the following objectives:

2 short papers (5 pages minimum)—students will choose from the following objectives:

 

  • Students will discuss the role of technology in organizations.

2 Examinations—Objectives fulfilled:

Evaluation and Grading: 675 possible points: 2 - 100 point tests, 2 100 point short papers (5 pages minimum), 1 200 point long paper (10 pages minimum) and weekly participation in the posting board on the Internet by answering the weekly questions 75 points.

64 and below: F
