I.                     COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Study is directed at the law of commercial transactions.  This course will provide students with an in depth knowledge of business law transactions.  Accounting students will be prepared to take the business law section of the CPA examination.  Study is focused on the law of contracts, sales, commercial paper, secured transactions, business organizations and accountant's legal liability.

 

II.                   REQUIRED TEXTBOOK

Business Law, Smith & Roberson 13th edition

 

 

III.                 COURSE REQUIRMENTS

 

1.                    A midterm and final objective style examination will be administered to measure mastery of the material assigned in class.  All examinations will be open book and open note examination.

2.                    Self-study quizzes will be available in the course documents section for the students to ascertain their level of expertise.

3.                    Chapter problems are assigned for student on-line discussion. Students are expected to carefully prepare answers to each question.

 

IT IS EXPECTED THAT EXAMINATIONS WILL BE TAKEN ON SCHEDULED DATES.  STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO CONSULT WITH THE INSTRUCTOR CONCERINING ILLNESS OR OTHER PROBLEMS IN ADVANCE OF THE MIDTERM EXAMINATION WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUBSTITUTE THE FINAL EXAMINATION GRADE FOR THE MISSED EXAMINATION. MAKE-UP EXAMINATIONS WILL BE GIVEN ONLY UNDER SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

IV.                METHODOLOGY

 

1.                    The class format will be on line discussion with students preparing case studies..  Students are expected to participate in the class discussion of cases, text material, problems and questions.

2.                    The discussion board will consist of discussion of assigned chapter problems and clarification of assigned material.

3.                    Students are expected to comply with academic conduct regulations as specified in the current University catalogue.
