Theology and Religion in the University of Great Falls

Theology and Religion at the University of Great Falls is the most explicit expression of the mission of the University to participate in the teaching mission of Jesus Christ. Courses and programs in Theology and Religion express the Catholic and ecumenical heritage and values of the University. These programs of study enable students to (1) construct a critical, grounded understanding and appreciation of the roots and function of religion in life; (2) demonstrate consistently the value of community and the interrelatedness of all creation; (3) identify and explain central Christian and Catholic doctrines and ethical principles; (4) make sound moral decisions that contribute to a world of respect, service, and justice; and (5) foster genuine ecumenical dialogue from a stance of deep commitment. The Theology and Religion program also provides the foundation for the Certificate of Lay Ministry in collaboration with the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings.

PROGRAMS

Major and Minor in Theology and Religion
Theology and Religion offers baccalaureate and associate degrees with theology or ministry emphasis. The major programs offer grounding for those interested in church related professions or in teaching in church related schools. They also provide a broad cultural background for further study in theology, law, and other disciplines. The minor programs give the opportunity to broaden one's perspective in ways especially important to professions such as teaching, law, and counseling.

Theology and Religion in the University Core

For students of UGF,  TRL offers a variety of courses in Theology, Moral Theology and Biblical Studies to satisfy the 6 credit university core requirements in religion. The Theology and Religion Department advises that one of these courses be at the 100/200 level, the other at the 300/400 level. Upper division courses always presuppose the skills developed in 100/200 level courses.
